CapriCCio Vocal Ensemble
CapriCCio
celebrates our 20th anniversary this year!
20 years dedicated to singing the finest choral music of
many styles from many eras...performing works spanning more
than 6 centuries (from the 15th century to
today’s composers), with an emphasis on earlier music.
Formed in 1989 by director Michael Gormley, the choir has
won accolades for its clear, focussed sound and wide-ranging
repertoire.
The group regularly performs major choral
works like Bach's B Minor Mass and Handel's Messiah, as part
of a repertoire of songs and major works from all eras
ranging from Tallis and Gabrieli to Pärt and younger
contemporaries. CapriCCio is also known
for its "theme" concerts, such as its annual
Remembrance Day concert, a concert for St. Patrick's Day of
lively Irish folksongs, and "Music of the North" which featured Canadian and Scandinavian composers. The choir was featured in the North American
premiere of Christopher Butterfield's Requiem for Convoy
PQ17. CapriCCio is a frequent collaborator with the
Victoria Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with the
Portland Baroque Orchestra, the Pacific Baroque Orchestra,
the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra and the Civic
Orchestra.
CapriCCio's concert season is supported by its audiences and
generous contributions from its donors. CapriCCio Vocal
Ensemble Society operates as a non-profit organization to
support the choir's activities.
